What is the difference between the iPad (generations) and the iPad Air?

Actually just looking to see what the best fit is to buy— playing poker, emails and watching videos. Does it matter if I pick and iPad or an iPad Air ?
Your question is a bit confusing.
The regular iPad and the iPad Air both have different generations.
The regular entry level iPad is at its 8th Generation, while the iPad Air is currently at its 4th generation.

For playing poker, emails and watching videos, it won't matter what you choose.

I suggest you wait till September before buying anything, as Apple is probably going to release a new iPad (9th gen), iPad Air (5th gen) and possibly an iPad mini (6th gen) then.
