Add SmarTrip card to Apple Wallet -- trouble

I have a Senior SmarTrip card, which is also in the SmarTrip app on my iPhone, but I cannot add it to Apple Wallet, following all the instructions I can find about using the physical card or trying to transfer the online card which is in the app. What do I do next?
