Problem with changing Apple ID for email

I will shortly lose my current email address so need to change my Apple ID. My other email address was a back-up address and when I try to use it as my ID address it tells me I can't - even though I have now deleted it as a back-up.

I see that others have reported a similar problem over a number of years now, and wonder if there is a solution?

The solution is to use a new email address. Apple doesn't have a position statement on re-using email addresses but from reports on this forum it is generally understood if you have recently used an email address with Apple for another purpose such as a rescue email address it cannot be re-used immediately for another purpose, or at all if it was used with another Apple Account.

Unfortunately, there isn't a simple solution.

Apple hasn’t published any guidance for using an address again. Normally, if your e-mail address was associated with an ID in any way, for example as a Notification email address or a Rescue e-mail address, then it can't be reused with another Apple ID for approximately one year. I have also seen posts that stated Apple told them there was a 30 day waiting period before the address could be used again.  You will need to get another e-mail address to use as your Apple ID or you can try waiting 30 days to see if that works.
