(2021) Amazon website freezes while loading on Safari, but only Amazon

Amazon website freezes while loading on Safari, but only Amazon page is affected.

I can still open new tabs and windows, nothing else is affected.

Mac continues to run properly, except for the Amazon page.

No error codes or anything, have to keep clicking the 'x' until I get the 'force reload' button, and that doesn't help either, the page freezes again as as soon as it loads.

Empty caches, clear history, quit Safari and restart it, sometimes that works but not for very long.

No Virus or adware, extensions, Pop ups on Amazon not blocked, latest updates, hardware is up to snuff.

Anyone?

Have you tried going to Safari/Preferences/Privacy/Manage Website Data and deleting the Amazon cookie? Then quit/reopen Safari and test.

I found a solution to the problem after hours of searching, some apple user discovered that the problem lies with font size, of all things. You have to go into your settings and allow all the font sizes. apparently if your computer is set to only allow font sizes of 9 and larger, it will cause problems accessing Amazon which has font sizes much smaller. I don't really get it, because I've never had the problem before. So somehow it became an issue with recent updates. So it's really and Apple issue, even though they say it's an Amazon issue. And apparently Apple techs don't know about it so they just blame Amazon.

Anyway I haven't had a problem since I "allowed" smaller fonts in my settings. Getting rid of cookies and reseting things, didn't fix the problem, changing font size allowances did.

I have the developer gizmos active in my Safari, so I can switch user agents... meaning, I can make Safari pretend it's something else, such as Safari-on-iPhone.

And: the freezes do not occur if I do that!

Of course, it means I must endure the mobile format of Amazon's pages, which doesn't look so great on my Mac.

Still, this might be a clue as to what's going on. Deleting Amazon-related cookies helps for a short while, but then it begins again.

I too had this problem, on an iMac 27" running Mojave. (AND no, I can't upgrade this machine because this one has the Adobe CS 6 suite on it, and if I upgrade, I'm told the Adobe suite won't function anymore. Not even worth the Risk! I have other MACs

All I did to fix it was to delete the Amazon cache cookies in Safari preferences, shut down Safari, start up Safari, and bingo, all good. Yup.

Best of luck and no way am I going back to Windoze. "OH!! Windows is almost like a MAC. " Clever marketing there!!!

Hi and thanks for the reply. I tried an idea that was suggested by another (see above) and so far, by deleting the ancient bookmark and replacing it with a new one, my problems seems to have gone away.

Now, with that being said, That may not work for everyone. My Mini is an old 2012, getttin' up there, and I've had other problems with Catalina that no one else had either, so I recommend everyone try all of these different suggestions until they find the one that works.

Thanks again.

I have this same issue. Troubleshooting steps I've taken:

1.) delete amazon specific cookies from preferences and quit then re opened safari

2.) cleared all history , empty caches 2x, force quit safari, re open in safe mode

3.) Tried to change website settings / permissions in safari preferences for amazon website

4.) Tried both private and regular windows / tabs

5.) Checked if the problem persisted on safari app for both iPad and iPhone - it did not no issues whatsoever in both amazon app and safari app.

6.) air dropped the page from the iOS device to the iMac

still having the same issues.

-no vpn

-no anti virus or malware programs currently running.

-macOS up to date and is a 2019 model

-storage is not even over 50% capacity

I thought that this was an amazon fueled problem to force users to purchase the 'buy amazon app' which I have and it runs smoothly. However, it was acting buggy the other day and it doesn't show up on my running ops when I open the force quit tab, and I discovered that app is unaffiliated with amazon.com soooo...

I don't know

I have the same problem for the past 2 weeks. I even updated to the latest operating system per Apple support... and removed the cache, and I still have an issue. When I do a search in Amazon, the page loads with options, but doesn't completely load the item selects. Or if it does, half of the page is blank. OR it will load, but the the page freezes and when I move my cursor over the pics on the right of the listing to get a better look, it doesn't respond.

Can someone at Apple/Safari please fix this. I have closed out the page and restarted countless times... and sometimes just give up and order elsewhere.

Mine does exactly the same thing on my fairly new MacBook with latest iOS. I like you don't want to always goto Firefox in order to have amazon load properly and not freeze up. It works for a while when I delete cookies and checked all website setting etc etc under preferences and safari prefs. This is really starting to get really frustrating with no real way to stop the freeze. Its almost like apple has designed it to stop amazon! Really want to get this problem, resolved. Have you spoken to anyone at apple, if so what was their ideas?
