Remove music/itunes album ratings (grey stars)

This isn't a question, it's an answer. The question has been asked and answered before but the answers are all way out of date, and replies are locked. Hopefully, if you have this question, you'll find this new answer.

You don't need to use a script!

To remove the album ratings (the grey stars) in Music/itunes:

  1. right click the track and select "Show album in library"
  2. next to the play button, you'll see the album rating
  3. click and drag left on the stars to set it to zero stars
  4. it will immediately reset to the automatic rating, but don't worry
  5. go back to the songs list and you'll find that the grey stars are gone

If you give some songs from an album manual ratings, but don't manually rate the album, the album gets auto rated.

If you give an album a rating but don't manually rate each song then the unrated songs get auto rated.

The scripts I've posted previously set auto rated tracks or albums to a 1% rating to suppress unwanted auto ratings while allowing you to keep the manual ratings that you've already set.
