Find my Bike - Stuck in the process: not connected to iCloud Apple ID

I bought the Van Moof, which has "Find my Object" service.

Problem

When I wanted to connect it, I stopped the process half way, now it doesn't show up anywhere and I cannot reset. When I ride the bike it says "An object Van Moof S3 is following you". But this is my won bike.

I cannot disconnect the bike from Findmy, since it is not connected to anyones Apple account

Steps that caused the problem:

  1. Put the Van Moof bike in "find my" setup mode
  2. Opened Find my-app and choose "Add new Object"
  3. Find my app found the bike, connected
  4. Find my-app wanted me to login to an Apple Cloud ID account
  5. I quit the setup process.

I have resetted the bike, but the Find my-app and the bike are not connecting.....

I have switched Find my functionality on my Phone of, and tried the process. Also the app can not find the bike.

It feels I am stuc in between two world: can anyone help?!?

Thnks

Has this problem been solved?  If not, when your bike is unlocked, if you quickly double press the power button, do you hear two short beeping kind of sounds instead of a continuous twinkling sound?  If so, I *was* experiencing a similar problem.  (After I removed my X3 from the Find My on iPhone, I was no longer able to add it back again because the bike kept behaving as if it was still connected to the Find My even though it was no longer listed in the Find My app.)

Long story short, I brought my bike in to a VanMoof shop in Covent Garden.  Luckily a brilliant staff made it discoverable by the Find My again, and all is good now.  Below is what he did.  I don’t know if this solves your problem, but I hope it does!

  1. Reset the bike by pressing the power button 8 seconds.
  2. Turn on the bike and unlock.
  3. Make the bike in to the “Apple Find My is temporarily disabled” mode by pressing the power button twice.  --> You should hear two beeping kind of sound.  And you should be able to see your bike is in this mode in the “My Bike” info in the VanMoof app.
  4. Then, press the power button 5 times.
  5. Wait for a few seconds until the bike is back on.
  6. Press the power button twice.  —> The bike should start playing a twinkling music kind sound, not two short beeping sounds.
  7. Launch the Find My app, do “Items” -> “Add New Item” -> “Other Supported Items”.  Follow the instructions that will come up on the Find My app.

  • When the bike is connected to the Find My, the bike should stop playing the twinkling sound.
  • When adding the bike completes, the bike should show in “Items” view in the Find My app, not “Devices” view.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply.

Those steps are exactly the steps I have taken, BUT halfway step 4 "Follow the onscreen steps to name it and register it to your Apple ID. " I did not login with iCloud.

So it seems the Bike is connected to the Findmy-app, but not to an Apple ID for iCloud. So I can not continue the registration nor kan I remove the bike from Findmy-app.

Do you have a solution please?

(please also read my more detailed explanation in my first post)

Hope to hear from you

Hi again Jaap,

It sounds like your iPhone isn't showing the bike in the Find My app under devices, and also isn't recognizing the bike when you attempt to repeat the process. Is this correct?

Are you currently signed into iCloud in Settings > [your name] > iCloud on iPhone?

Have you had an opportunity to restart your iPhone and reset your bike at the same time, before trying again to detect it in Find My?

So that we're on the same page, what's the version of iOS installed on your device? This can be found under Settings > General > About. The latest version of iOS is 14.7.1.

If an update is available, we can recommend updating your device before attempting the process again. Here's a guide to help:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Do you have any other items showing in the Find My app? If your iPhone is fully updated, otherwise working as expected, and yet the issue persists after these steps, it may be necessary to refer you to VanMoof Support directly to determine if there's another method to ready the bike for pairing with Find My.

Take care.
