Can not log in

I hv tried the control option while holding down the R P button but it only gives me the aption to type 2 keys for my password. I don’t understand

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.14

Reset Computer Password

Intel Computer

1 - Restart computer and immediately hold Command + r keys

2 - Top Tool Bar >> Utilities >> Terminal

3 - Type resetpassword as one word and no spaces

4 - Press Return key

5 - Follow the prompts and remember the New Password
