MIDI Keyboard not recognized

Hello all,

I'm trying to work on a music project with logic pro x. (v10.6.3) I had been using a piano keyboard (Casio Privia PX-320) with MIDI interface to work on my project successfully for some number of sessions until one day I plug in my keyboard and it's no longer recognized by Logic. In fact, I think the keyboard is not recognized by the computer at all. The image below shows what I see in the MIDI studio from the audio setup. It shows a usb midi interface but not the keyboard.

I'm wondering what setting I may have accidentally hit either on my keyboard or my computer to suddenly make it unrecognizable for the computer. Suggestions/ideas welcome.

Mac mini, macOS 11.4

Hi,

Make sure you click "Enable" to start the logging with MIDIview.

You can also use the Apple Midi Setup utility and enable "Test" mode. When you hit a key you should hear a "bing".

There have been lots of issues with legacy MIDI drivers and interfaces with the move to Catalina ( 64bit ) and Big Sur.  Check with your MIDI vendor support and confirm support for Sig Sur for your device(s). This is a critical first step since the onus is on the Third party vendor to fully support Big Sur OSX. I have seen an uptick with Midi Issue with since Logic 10.5 ad here are my observations and tips:

1) Make sure ALL drivers are current and supported (Critical )

2) No USB hubs in the data chain to MIDI devices

3) Always start from a cold startup, no wake from sleep

4) No changing of accounts ( logout / login )

5) If using a combination of USB and a MIDI multi-port interface leave Port A open on the multi-port.

These steps solved about 99% of my (and fellow musicians ) MIDI issues.

Hope this helps

Connecting with this USB. When I check through MidiView I see the USB port comes up but nothing I play on the keyboard rolls through the log screen. That would suggest the problem is the driver then, yes?

I don't understand why the driver would suddenly stop working. I'm fairly certain I've had Big Sur on this computer the entire time I was able to use the keyboard and while there have been minor updates since then, it doesn't make sense to me why they would affect MIDI components.

Can you clarify the connection chain: Connecting with USB or 5 Pin DIN through a Midi Adapter/Interface? What kind of Adapter?

Make sure that you have updated the driver for the keyboard. Many older device drivers and MIDI adapters no longer work consistently with Catalina or Big Sur. Check with each vendor for its Big Sur support statement and get supported drivers.

Also, get MidiView ( free ) from the AppStore. Reboot and monitor for any Midi ( no Logic ). This can help DeBug.

Hope this helps
