kernel_task is killing my wi-fi, how do I fix it?
Over the past few months I have had a strange issue where the wi-fi on my iMac has stopped working. Over a period of many weeks I have discovered the issue but do not understand why it is happening or how to resolve it.
Basically, I have determined that when the kernel_task process is running high as a % of CPU in Activity Monitor, my wi-fi performance is degraded and ultimately it switches off. In one incident, the wi-fi remained off for a month, before it suddenly came back to life. Other times, the problem lasts just a couple of mins. But the common factor in all occasions is that the kernel_task is running high, usually >50%, but as high as 400%!
I've read this is to do with temperature in the computer. However this also happens when I turn the computer on and the iMac is not warm to touch.
I've tried a PRAM reset, and killing apps, and unplugging USB hubs, nothing seems to work. It appears to be quite random.
Any thoughts on how to resolve would be greatly appreciated!
