If you check further, you will find that what you were told: "go to the Apple and "About this Mac". On the lower right-hand corner, you will see "Software Update." is NOT an update only for Safari. It is for an OS update, which may include a Safari update as well. If you read the window that opens after clicking the Software Update button it will tell you what OS you have installed. I say this because you indicated that no one here helped you with your question. I want to say specifically that Safari is not normally able to be updated individually since it is part of the computer's operating system and is installed as part of it. Updates to Safari are normally only done by doing an OS update or upgrade.

In addition to the fine comments provided above, I offer the following. If you are unable to access certain web sites, this is not an unusual situation. The reason is that web site engineers write their software to work with specific browsers and specific versions of them. You can hope that your web site's developers eventually update their site to work with Safari, or you can use another browser that does work such as Firefox or Chrome. They can be individually updated as needed. Finally, even if you are able to update Safari, there is no guarantee that it will be compatible with every web site.
