For anyone else who wants to know HOW to upgrade your Safari, while Safari is open, go to the Apple and "About this Mac". On the lower right-hand corner, you will see "Software Update." Click on that. If there is a software update for your Safari, it will show in that window along with any other updates that are available. And that is how you update Safari.
If you check further, you will find that what you were told: "go to the Apple and "About this Mac". On the lower right-hand corner, you will see "Software Update." is NOT an update only for Safari. It is for an OS update, which may include a Safari update as well. If you read the window that opens after clicking the Software Update button it will tell you what OS you have installed. I say this because you indicated that no one here helped you with your question. I want to say specifically that Safari is not normally able to be updated individually since it is part of the computer's operating system and is installed as part of it. Updates to Safari are normally only done by doing an OS update or upgrade.
In addition to the fine comments provided above, I offer the following. If you are unable to access certain web sites, this is not an unusual situation. The reason is that web site engineers write their software to work with specific browsers and specific versions of them. You can hope that your web site's developers eventually update their site to work with Safari, or you can use another browser that does work such as Firefox or Chrome. They can be individually updated as needed. Finally, even if you are able to update Safari, there is no guarantee that it will be compatible with every web site. I hope this explanation is helpful in understanding what is going on.
All I want is a link to let me install the latest Safari from a download. There is NO link anywhere. It was from reinstalling the system that got the warning that Safari was out of date. Is there no place that just has the downloads for the latest version of Safari? It's not in the App store.
Thank you for saying my comment was fine. It wasn't actually my answer. I called Apple and a senior advisor told me how to update Safari. Since no one here was able (or willing) to do so, I thought I would share his answer so others can have the answer immediately.
