Mac photos stuck on "Restoring from icloud"

I had this problem but could not reply to others with the same issue. I have found an answer that worked for me, hopefully for you too.

Quit photos, press and hold option and command while you open photos.

It took a few hours but it repaired the issue.

Photos stuck restoring on Mac I'm on a Macbook Air 2019 running Monterey 12.6. I opened Photos yesterday and got the Restoring screen, with a tiny message at the bottom "iCloud Photos is not turned on. You can turn on iCloud Photos in Photos Preferences." It's true - ICloud Photos is not turned on. I don't want it turned on. I don't want to pay for extra icloud storage. And even if I wanted to, Photos Preferences is grayed out so I can't turn it on there. I left it restoring overnight and, of course, it never moved from 0%. Restarted and got the same thing. I can't do anything else in Photos. Help?

Photos on a Mac - stuck in restoring from iCloud My question is why has “restoring from iCloud” been showing for days in Photos? Did the recent Mac OS update cause this? Anything I can do or should do to resolve this?

Photos for Mac Big Sur stuck on "Restoring from iCloud..." Photos for Mac is no longer showing my most recent photos and is not in sync with my photos on my other devices or on iCloud.com. It's been stuck on "Restoring from iCloud" for a couple of weeks now. It happened after I imported a bunch of small video files which took a long time to upload. The files have indeed been uploaded to iCloud, but my Mac stopped syncing, so I chose to restore my Mac Photos library. Now it doesn't seem to update at all. I have about 32 000 photos.
