my iPhone 12 requires frequent charging. Is there a problem or is it standard

Define "frequent"? Once a day? Twice? More?
Once or twice a day may be normal depending on usage.
You can go into Settings->Battery and review what is using the most battery.
You can also verify your battery's health at Settings->Battery->Battery Health. Anything over 90% means the battery is fine.
