Guys, i want to use my Apple TV 4k (model before the current one) to control the lights in the house when I'm away from the home.
Do I need to keep the Apple TV ON (as in the device will either be on the Home screen or Screen Saver screen)? OR can I simply leave the MAINS switch on for the device, but keep the Apple TV itself off (no home screen or screen saver. ONly the mains switch will be ON on the device)?

I keep mine always on (disabled sleep). The TV set is of course turned off when not in use.
Some users claim that the hub functionality works even in sleep mode.
I haven't found an Apple official statement in this regard.
Apple TV's power consumption is very low. Even keeping it on 24/day it'd cost ~ $4/year.
By ON I mean that it's connected to AC power, but I haven't actually turned the ATV itself on. And it's not even in sleep mode (as in the screen savers are on). After watching something, I always hold the button down and switch it off. But AC.remains connected.
if connected to ac power and is configured to your network, then it is on, even if in standby /sleep whatever mode.

it needs to be connected to AC power
but it can be suspended and still work
I just went and checked and I'm now all set-up for HomeKit.
Now, can anyone recommend me some good but reasonably priced bulbs that I can buy in the UK?
IKEA has cheap ones, philips are better though
For some strange reason, Ikea only do the E27 bulbs. I need B22's.
Also, would I need the IkeaGateway kit too for Homekit?or would just a Tradrfri bulb alone work?
