Old Apple ID seems baked into my Imac…unable to sign into Messages or FaceTime

I am unable to sign into Messages and FaceTime on mu iMac. My iMac asks me to enter a password for an apple ID that I no longer use. I only have this problem on my iMac, my iPhone, iWatch and iPad Pro work and are synced just fine. It seems that the old Apple ID is baked in the iMac and will not ask for my current Apple ID.

I do get a screen that asks me to enter my Apple ID and PW, but when i do it spins and gives me an error.

Will appreciate your help

Have you gone to Messages/Preferences/Accounts and deleted the existing account by selecting it in the left panel, then deleting the account using the - (minus) sign at the bottom left or unchecked Enable this account? Then use the + sign at the bottom left to create a new account using your current Apple ID.

Have you gone to FaceTime/Preferences/Settings and signed out? Then quit/reopened FaceTime and signed in with your new Apple ID?

I am not able to open messages and or FaceTime. When I try I am asked for the Apple ID Password linked to the email that no longer is tied to Apple at all. So cant complete what you suggest I do.

The interesting thing is…when in the iMac and go to Apple ID info, the correct apple id is shown.

Additionally, when i go to the "General" tab within the Messages Preferences…and click on the Sharing Names and Photo…i get the following…"Sharing Name and Photo is not available because iCloud and i Message accounts are different or are not signed in.

Finally, I disconnected iCloud and reconnected it on the iMac…i get the following message…Enter the password for your apple ID using the iCloud on this Mac: but the message shows the incorrect ID…I cannot change the ID, it is part of the message.
