Can I update an old Mac to last longer

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and want it to last another 10years. Will I be able to get the latest updates if I upgrade the HDD to an SSD and increase memory etc?

The latest operating system I can get is El Capitan.

From a Boomer.

MacBook Pro 13″, OS X 10.11

Sorry, Neil245, Not officially, no. Your 2011 MacBook pro will support up to Mojave.. Catalina has certain requirements, listed here( link)

https://support.apple.com/kb/SP803?locale=en_CA and if your Mac doesn’t meet those requirements, then that’s it, officially.. this link might be helpful : https://forums.macrumors.com/

Additionally, for a computer, 10 years is very old and any/all of the hardware will likely fail long before another 10 years would pass. And, even if it does not, at some point you would no longer be able to access much of the internet because websites will no longer allow such an insecure and old browser to access their site. You would have no protection going online.
