HomePod mini won’t work on the asus mesh but works on isp wifi

My HomePod mini won’t stay connected to my ASUS zen wifi ax mesh system. I will set it up. It will work for a little but then it says it can’t connect to the internet. It will never connect again. I have to reset it and then I enabled my ISP wifi which is an att 210 gateway. It will work for days, but because it is a different network I can’t use it for airplay, but the threading for my lights will work so I have to leave it there. Then the home app will say it’s on a different network. I will migrate it back. It will work for a little bit until it kicks it off the network again. My isp router is dual band and my isp is Tri-band. I suspect it is the asus firmware, but I can’t find anyone who has had this issue anywhere. I have bound the ip, I have set the QoS to allow the HomePod to connect, I have removed those settings. I have obsessively checked to see if all my equipment is up to date and yes I have unplugged it multiple times and I get the same result every time. Has anyone seen this? Is their a workaround? To add, I took it to apple and they swapped

it out and I got the same results with a new device.

HomePod mini, 14

I had multiple issues with Asus mesh and Ios devices due to an asus bug that can be fixed by disabling in the router settings ‘WiFi Agile Multiband’. You may have to forget and re-register the wifi network on the ios device so it reconnects properly. This seems to be a known issue between ax mesh current firmware and ios.

Adding my experience to the list. Two HomePod minis on an ASUS Zen WiFi AX, and all of the same problems others are having. Setup error 301014 during device setup. Stuck on “Configuring…” when trying setup through Home app. Used work around of setting up over hotspot but now Siri won’t play Apple Music through a direct request, often won’t recognize my voice, and Home app frequently gives an error specific to the Minis that my account Apple ID or password are incorrect.

Joining the others here: HomePod mini on an ASUS Zen WiFi AX, and all of the same symptoms that other folks are having. I kept getting stuck with setup error 301014. I could try to setup through Home app, but the homepod would only get through to “Configuring…” and never fully installed.

in the ASUS app, I can see that the HomePod is connected and has ul/dl data moving; unclear what that is, because it still has all of the deficits that people mentioned.

I believe the location issue is Apple-related. Make sure your iPhone is updated to 15.2. After the update, open the Home app and it should prompt you to enable Location Services for all your HomePods. That should fix the issue.

It still doesn't fix the larger issue with HomePod Minis not being able to access the internet on ASUS Mesh network. Hoping someone can find a solution that doesn't involve buying a whole new mesh wifi system.

I have the exact same symptoms as you with the same router, Zenwifi AX. I was able to get it set up using the tethering trick and now it will respond to simple requests such as the weather, controlling home automation, etc. but it will not play anything directly off the device. I have tried Apple Music and Podcasts, sometimes it says it is playing but it never starts, other times it tells me to keep waiting while it tries.

I have tried everything I can think of with the router, splitting the 2.4G and 5G bands, restricting the HomePod to one or the other, disabling Wifi6, disabling the smart features, hard setting specific bands to specific channels, nothing works.

If I find a solution I will post it here, I have been tearing my hair out over it. I have also sent Apple some feedback on this bug, hopefully they will find something I can do. It's the only device that has problems on my network, I have ancient IOT devices that only support 2.4Ghz wifi with specific settings and don't have any problems with them, just the HomePod Mini.

I am also having problems with my Asus Zen Wi-Fi AX and HomePod mini‘s. I bought the HomePods while vacationing at a different location. They connected to that home’s Wi-Fi network and setup with no problems and worked fine.

I moved back home and tried connecting to my Asus Zen Wi-Fi network. I had set up errors, failing to fully set up (error code something like 301043). When I tried looking up the error code I could never find anything specific.

I found a recommendation to place my phone in hotspot mode then connect my iPad to my iPhone via hotspot, then set up the HomePod minis with the iPad. This is essentially bypassing the home WiFi but works flawlessly for setting them up. Unfortunately, when I switch my devices back to my Zen Wi-Fi and that information is eventually passed on to the HomePods, the HomePods can no longer reach Apple Music. Interestingly, it will still have an Internet connection and I can ask the weather, information from Wikipedia, and other routine requests like reading my last email or text message. But when I ask it to play tracks from my Apple Music collection, it has significant problems. Often times it will provide various errors like “this is taking too long” and give up. Sometimes, it can find the playlist and will say it is playing it but no volume comes out. I can then ask What song is playing and it will give me an artist and song in my collection but there is still no sound. If I open the home app to see what is playing, often it does not show a song or if it does show a song, it’s a different song and it is not actually playing.

I've had this ongoing since 2020 when I bought the Asus router. Everytime I updated the firmware on the RT-AX56U, the homepod mini would work for about 5 mins then could no longer connect. I had to re-flash the old firmware. In my case, back to version 3.0.0.4.384.9428 from November 26, 2020 (the firmware it came with). Once I put the old version back on, everything works fine and never fails. That tells me its the firmware on the router and not the mini. Nothing else I've attempted on the router end has worked. Probably the last Asus router I'll purchase as I've reported this to them several times over the past year. Once a new firmware gets released, I try it again, and the same problem returns.
