My iPod freezes when i try to restore it... can anyone help?

Hello, my iPod freezes everytime i try to restore. This all started about 2 weeks ago when i tried to update it to the newest version... it wouldnt download and then when i unhooked my iPod from the computer it froze with the apple "homescreen" where the screen is black with the silver apple in the middle. Then it died after awhile. then i hooked it up to my iHome to charge and it charges then when i take it off it stays frozen on the USB cord with an arrow to the earth.... if anyone needs more info. just ask... i really would love help on this. Thanks!... does anyone else have this problem?

Welcome to the discussions,
did you already try to connect in recovery mode? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If this does not work, try to delete the ipod software file located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates to make iTunes download a new copy when you connect in recovery mode. Maybe the file stored on your PC is damaged.

Did you check your security software settings? The ipod needs to contact Apple during the restore process: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3125
Error 13 and 14: These errors are typically resolved by performing one of more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including a different USB port directly on the computer.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
Try a different USB 30-pin dock connector cable.
Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your Registry. If your default packet size is set incorrectly it can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
