Transfer of AppleCare after item replacement

I purchased an iPad Pro on Aug 9 together with extended AppleCare. I subsequently returned it (to Bestbuy) because It had a scratch/crack across the entire screen. Bestbuy was able to credit my purchase price, replace the iPad, and charge me again for the replacement. The problem I have is getting the extended warranty transferred to the new iPad. I have my sales receipt and all serial numbers. Can you help me?

First I'd just see if it was done automatically.

I recently had an iPad Pro replaced under Applecare - it was done at an Apple store and Apple automatically transferred the plan to the new serial number.

However, since you are dealing with Best Buy and they handled it as a "return" with a credit and new charge, it most likely will not happen automatically. You best (first) deal with Best Buy since that is where you got it. They should have addressed it when you returned the item. If they won't/can't, then you may have to cancel the Applecare on the returned item and buy it again for the new one.

I went through about 4 people and finally was transferred to an AppleCare #. I am waiting for that to kick in. Best Buy's recommendation to me was wait 48 hours then return to the store (2 hour round trip). Hopefully, this will get fixed otherwise I will own extended AppleCare for a (broken) iPad I no longer own.

You may not get an notification on your new iPad when the

extended coverage is transferred.

You can use the link Limnos provided in his first response to

see if the extended coverage is transferred. If not when you

first try, keep checking while waiting the 48 hours Best Buy

suggested; certainly easier to do yourself at home than take the

round trip.
