What if I install and I get no command to reset? The download was successful and installation but I can’t get it to run.

I have installed high Sierra as the Mac I bought is from mid 2012 and only compatible with some OS. It’s installed but I get no prompts to restart so I can install it correctly. Help!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.14

Yes I have OS X 10.9 and need to upgrade. Due to my version I can’t get the newest Big Sur but I’ve tried to download high Sierra and one other Os to try. I download and follow instructions and nothing happens. Even with the new oS installed and even if I restart. Even if I had read command and R to bring up disk utility I’ve tried to even erase the drive maybe there’s something wrong with that step. It will not recognize my download and will not update the comp Os
