Files from windows SMB network are locked when copied to Mac

I have two laptops one windows 10 and one Macbook Pro, I access files on my windows laptop from Mac via connecting to SMB network but any file that I copy from the network to my Mac is always locked, I usually delete the file after use so whenever I try to delete, I have to unlock the files then delete. Is there any way so the files copied from the network aren't locked automatically.

Hi there godcoder,

Thanks for joining us in Apple Support Communities! We understand you're asking how to prevent files from being locked when copied from your file sharing network to your Mac. We're glad you're here, and we can provide some guidance.

"Because passwords for some Windows users may be stored less securely, it’s a good idea to deselect the On checkbox next to each account when it’s not in use. Do this before you turn off file sharing on your Mac. Otherwise, the password is still active and stored in a less secure manner." Have a look at this link to learn more:

Set the protocol for file sharing on Mac

With that said, you can change your SMB encrypted connection options with the steps in the 'Set advanced file sharing options' section here:

Set up file sharing on Mac

Also, you may find the information in this link helpful:

Share Mac files with Windows users

Don't hesitate to follow up with us if we can be of any more help.

Take care.

Are you copying them from your user account into your home, or are you logged in as another user and moving them?

I have only one account in both Mac and Windows machines, both administrator, I connect to the windows account using Microsoft credential and then copy files from there to the desktop on my Mac

By locked, you really mean the checkbox in Get Info, correct?

Ya, the checkbox in the 'Get Info' is ticked and a little lock appears on the icon on desktop.

The info of one of the files copied from network to desktop looks like this.

Thanks for your support.

I marked it solved by mistake, I am so noob I couldn’t figure how to unmark it 😅😒,

There isn't.

your suggestion is useful but still I wanted to know a way so the files won't be locked as I copy them from the network to my mac.
Thanks anyways for your reply. 😊

I was just throwing that in there on the premise you had solved that.

Are you copying them from your user account into your home, or are you logged in as another user and moving them?

It will write them as being owned by the user you are logged in as. By locked, you really mean the checkbox in Get Info, correct?

Get Info on one of the Locked files. Are you the owner and have Read/Write?

Files from windows SMB network are locked when copied to Mac
