Hi,
I have an IPad Air 2. My protective case has worn down and I would like to order a replacement but I can only find 4th generation iPad Air cases.
Would this be compatible with iPad Air 2 as well as the 4th generation.
Specific searches in the search library don’t direct me straight to iPad Air 2.

No that case will not work your iPad Air 2. That case is made for iPad Air (4th Generation). Apple does not carry cases for the iPad Air 2. You should try Amazon. Here is ➔ one out of several iPad Air 2 cases that I found for you on Amazon. See image below:
