I just got my new iPhone 4 and synced everything up today. Everything has been working fine for the entire day and now random contacts seem to be missing. Some of the phone numbers are still there and their names and addresses are gone, other contacts are just gone all together. The only thing I did was install an emoji app since the spell number easter egg has been disabled. Could the app have done this??? The contacts I am missing are all still in my address book they just won't sync over to my phone. What is going on???
If all contacts are available in the supported address book application on your computer and you aren't accessing a MobileMe account on your iPhone along with syncing contacts over the air with your MobileMe account on your iPhone, under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes below the Advanced section, select Contacts for replace info on this iPhone. Select Apply followed by a sync.
If this started happening after installing this app - not sure how this app would cause this, but try deleting the app to see if it makes any difference.
I don't see how that could happen either and I highly doubt that is the cause, it is just the only thing I can think of that I did recently since the last time my phone had all its contacts in place. Already tried that and still no luck. I am in the middle of a restore right now. Hopefully that will fix my problem.
No luck with the restore. Looks like I'll have to sit in front of the computer and re-input ALL of my missing contacts! Hopefully this is some kind of fix that Apple can send out a software update for.
I am having the same issue even when I type the contact in my phone - it doesn't sync. So I have to add the contacts to the address book - then sync my phone. This in not emoji app problem because my contacts worked fine on my 3Gs it is an iPhone 4 software issue. It was when I updated my phone to the new software that it started having problems. Hopefully a new update will correct this.
Are my contacts lost? I believe they are. I downloaded latest version of iTunes and backed up my 3g. I then downloaded 4.0.2 and installed that. At some point in that process, I believe I saw it say it was backing up again.
I have no contacts and the backup in the backup folder appears to be that last backup after the update. It's only 24 mb.
I used to have a corporate account via exchange, but I don't work at that company anymore, so I just left that account dormant. Did iTunes go ahead and dump my contacts because it couldn't find exchange? No warning, no nothing?
I don't believe contacts synced over the air with an Exchange account are included with your iPhone's backup. You can check available backups at iTunes > Preferences under the Devices tab. When installing a firmware update or when restoring an iPhone with iTunes, a new backup is created and the existing former backup should remain.
I just updated to iOS4.0.2 - and lost everything. Not just contacts, but every §*(k!ng thing. I have a brand spanking new iPhone - unfortunately. This is not usability, this is a nightmare.
I didn't lose anything - not when installing 4.0.1 or 4.0.2.
Even if I had, everything on my iPhone in regards to music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and 3rd party apps are in my iTunes library on my computer, photos transferred from my computer are in my iPhoto library, contacts are in the Address Book, calendar events are in iCal, notes are in the Mail.app, Safari bookmarks are in Safari on my Mac. I always import photos and videos in my iPhone's Camera Roll so there would be no problem there either. And I have an iPhone backup I can restore my iPhone from for the data not included with the iTunes sync process.
I had a similar problem in that MobileMe was not uploading changes I made to the address book. It would if I did it online, but not if it was on the device. I had to add all of my new contacts manually to MobileMe.
