If I’m transferring a iPhone 8 to a iPhone 12 Is my phone suppose to say reconnecting during the transfer

What does it mean if the new iPhone is still reconnecting? What does it mean when the new iPhone is still reconnecting? How do I know the transfer from my old iPhone is complete? Do I have to get a SIM card first?

I do not know which process you are referring to.

iPhone to iPhone, there are three ways,

Quick Transfer --> Use QuickStart to transfer data to a new iPhone, iPad, or iPod ...
Restore from iCloud Backup --> Restore or set up your device from an iCloud backup - Apple ...
Restore from iTunes backup --> Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in iTunes on PC ...
