Having issues transferring child account to another family.

I've tried any times to invite the child to the new family, but the old family organizer never receives notifications (multiple Macs and one iPhone). Is there another way to authorized the transfer?

Hi captainwil,

We see you're having issues moving a child account to a new Family Sharing group, and we'd be happy to help.

First, be sure that all steps/suggestions from this page are followed when trying this process: Move a child to another group using Family Sharing

Ensure that both the current and new Family Organizers have their country/region set correctly, and have a valid payment method on file.

If that looks OK, have the new Organizer look for the transfer request in Settings > Family Transfer Request (would show up immediately below their name at the top of Settings, if so).

It's possible they may also receive an email to an account associated with their Apple ID, so be sure to have them check any applicable email accounts, including the spam/junk folders for each.

If the issue still persists, we'd recommend reaching out directly to Apple Support for further investigation: Get Support

Take care!

captainwil,

Thanks for those additional helpful details.

Has the child been part of a different family, other than the existing one, within the last year? We ask as they may only switch once per year.

Has the new Family Organizer been able to check for the "Family Transfer Request" option near the top of Settings on the iPhone? If not, be sure to have them do so. This option doesn't appear unless there's an active request.

Also, if you happen to have a Mac, try initiating the request from there, and using the in-person method, if possible, as seen on the same page: Move a child to another group using Family Sharing

If the new Organizer is still not able to receive the request to approve it, we'd recommend continuing to work with Apple Support for further investigation: Get Support

Cheers.

Eric_G1,

Thanks for the reply.

I followed all instructions on that page.

  1. Both the old and new organizers have the valid payment methods and country/region are set correctly.
  2. No emails are received in any accounts (other emails from Apple/iCloud are always received). Checked SPAM also. Nothing there.
  3. Child gets a notification on their phone saying they have been invited to joint the family (new family), they can click on "More info" and then they get an error saying they are already part of a family
  4. Neither organizer (old family or new family) get any notifications

I have no idea why, but the issue appears to be that the old family organizer does not receive a notification asking for approval for the transfer. Old organizer has 2 Macs and an iPhone. All working all with latest updates. No notification shows up about this.

Have contacted Apple support and have an open case over a week now) and so far they have just asked for screenshots and videos of what shows up and how the invitations are being sent.... but the issue is the notification which is NOT received, so no luck yet.

I've also tried disbanding the new family and setting it up again. Nothing seems to work to generate the notification to the old family organizer.

Any other ideas?

Hi, I have the same problem except that I get notification to my email, not in system settings. The problem with notification is that I should have button saying something like go ahead or approve. Instead of that I have View request button that takes me to the internet side with information that to approve I should open the email in email app on my iPhone or iPad and use the go ahead button. But there is no such button in the email.

True is that i have my Apple ID email linked to gmail, but i do forward to iOS email app and it doesn’t help. The accept button is not initially there anyway, only View Request.

Any wisdom on that folks?

Thanks Eric_G1.

No, the kids have not been part of more than one family in the past year....or ever, actually. Only one family.

I have all the devices (inducing child devices, and both organizer devices, old and new).

Have tried to invite from iPhone and from Mac by the new organizer. Always when all devices are present.

Have checked for the request on both iPhone and Mac for the old organizer. No notification or request on any device. Very strange.
