If you get a corrupted message...
Naw, it's not damaged, it's just that you have an old copy already in Applications, there are 2 cures...
Disconnect from the Internet & set the Date back to 2014, then you can run the Install MacsOS ******* App in Applications, so expired Certificates are not expired.
Trash the Install MacsOS *******.app in Applications then a new copy more recent version can be downloaded.

Make a Time Machine Backup Before attempting. Notation - Mojave is the Last version to support 32 bit applications / extensions and Drivers. Catalina and Big Sur Only support 64 bit and there is no workaround.

Are there any AntiVirus, Disk Cleaner, Optimizers, Un-installers, etc installed which should be removed as per Developers Instructions. They are useless, unneeded, cause havoc and interfere with the normal operation of the OS and may even Corrupt the OS requiring a Reinstallation

Hardware Incompatibility:
Without further information, I'd say the reason is probably because your computer does not have the required hardware for these macOS Operating Systems.
Thank you! That was helpful. My problem wasn’t about upgrading the system. It was about system preferences it doesn’t show the latest upgrades and updates anymore even though all the boxes are checked, so i had to search for the latest upgrade and download it from the appstore.
That would be because the Offered upGrade from High Sierra to Mojave ( next up from HS ) was dismissed at the time it was offered.
Some year have passed since Mojave was released and Apple is not longer offering it an an upgrade for High Sierra users.. Same goes for Catalina ( next up from Mojave ) and same goes for Big Sur ( next up from Catalina )
