Have you tried connecting the phone to a computer that is running iTunes as shown in the screen shot?


See if anything here helps. 


iPhone – Won’t activate.        


iPhone/iPad - No Service or Searching.  


iPhone - If you can't make or receive calls


iPhone - If you see 'invalid SIM' or 'no SIM' on your iPhone or iPad
