You are fine to use a case on your M1 MacBook Pro, Take basic precautions with the case. Ensure that it does not get in the way of opening/closing the lid of your MacBook Pro. The lighter the case, the better it is. This is because you should not have a case that traps heat between itself and the body of your MacBook Pro. Do the research on the case that you plan to buy and make an informed decision.

As far as my own example, I have never used a case on any of my laptop computers (Windows and Mac) for the past 20+ years. I do not use a screen protector either. I have a decent laptop bag for carrying it around and also have a small light sleeve that is good when you transport the MacBook Pro from home to work etc.

Based on Personal Experience:

No. It is not a good idea to use a case, as it caused my Mac to overheat consistently, eventually leading to failure.

Use of a Sleeve:

So, what I use is a sleeve, and then I take it out of it, when I need to use my Mac. Once done using my Mac, I let it cool for a bit, and then close the screen, placing it back in the sleeveWhat I use: MOSISO Laptop Sleeve - Amazon

So to me personally, I think use your MacBook like normally, the more worried you are about the little things the more hectic its gonna be.

use your MacBook safely don't keep any open liquids near it, as for the screen you really don't need a screen protector, just wipe your screen with a microfibre if you see any dust. be careful not to scratch it though.

the body on the other hand is more prone to scratches and stuff. so be careful when putting into a backpack and look out for keys and things which can scratch the aluminium body.

use a laptop sleeve or backpack. if you're using a MacBook Air its okay to use a hard cover but make sure you're not insulating it cause heat will need to pass through since is doesn't have a fan.

Pro on the other hand make sure your not covering the air intake and outlet for the fans, covering that will cause performance to throttle cause of the heat.

Completely agree. I travel frequently and my MacBook Air (M1) is always turned OFF when it is in the backpack or the sleeve. I am always concerned about some background process getting hung up due to loss of internet connection (or any reason for that matter) and begin generating heat and depleting the battery. Don’t want to take that chance.

I always make sure the computer is turned off before putting it into the backpack.

umm, you really don't need to turn off your MacBook every time you put it into your backpack.

It puts stress on the ram and cpu every time you start it up, just to load everything up.

make use of the instant wake feature of the m1 chip. and importantly macOS manages battery so well you don't need to worry about battery draining whilst inside the bag.

Stress to the ram and cpu? These are not mechanical devices subject to stress and strain. Search these communities for all the posts from users who have had heat related issues to their computers due to leaving them on when stored in an enclosed location. My advice FWIW, is to always turn off a computer before placing it in an enclosed location with restricted air flow.
