They show up on both devices however, if I read and delete, move etc it now doesn’t change on the other device. All devices and both mail and gmail app (on iphone) work just do not sync/mirror with the other device.

Look at your gmail.com mail account in a browser preferably on a laptop and see which device is in line with this, which you should think of as the master database.
When you know which device is not in line check the mail account settings on that device, preferably remove and add back the account,
You say "vice versa"
Are you saying that both devices can send and receive gmails, but do not show up on the other device?
Thank you and that wasn’t the problem. Every since I changed my gmail password my iphone is not sync’d with my Macbook - it used to mirror all functions of either device. Now changes in either Mail or gmail app does nothing with emails on macbook and vice versus. If you have any suggestions that would be great. Thanks again.
Delete the gmail account from the iphone and add it back with the default settings
How do I do this? Not sure where to go to see if the device is in line?
If the device is out of line it will not have new mails that are in matched the main reference database (Gmail in the laptop browser)
