Not Getting 10Gbps on Solo 10G Thunderbolt to 10GBASE-T Ethernet Adapter

Hi, a few months ago I bought Solo 10G Thunderbolt 2 to 10GBASE-T Ethernet Adapter.

For my Mid 2014 Macbook pro 15 with i7 [Laptop with TB2]

Macbook pro with Solo10G TB2 is connected to TX401 10 Gigabit PCI Express Network Adapter and tested with OpenSpeedTest and iPerf both showing a maximum of 6 Gbps Upload and 4Gbps Download.

Enabled Jumbo frames = 9000 on both systems.

Fullduplex

NOW I WENT BACK TO the sonnet website and check the spec. [https://www.sonnettech.com/product/solo10g-tb2/techspecs.html#techspecs]

Maximum Transfer Rates(5)

Sending (Writing to Server) 700 MB/s

Receiving (Reading from Server) 460 MB/s

it says that its maximum performance is what I saw in my tests around 6 upload and 4 download.

Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 ports have less power than Thunderbolt 3 ports for bus-powered devices. In order to fit within the reduced power envelope, the Solo10G (Thunderbolt 2 Edition) needs to operate at a reduced performance compared to the Solo10G (Thunderbolt 3 Edition). If you require the maximum 10Gb performance on a Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 computer, we recommend the Sonnet Twin10G (Thunderbolt 2 Edition), which is not bus-powered.

I FEEL CHEATED

Why are they marketing this product as 10Gbps?

any other way I can achieve 10 Gbps on this device?

They have not mentioned anywhere the fact that this device cannot achieve those speeds. -- Not mentioned in YouTube promotional videos -- A paid unboxing video also not disclosed this fact. -- Their own store listing does not include this fact. -- User manual or any other places other than the spec page mentioned this issue.

If a device is designed to perform at a slower speed then it should be clear in all marketing materials. This is clearly crooked marketing / False advertising.

Even after I send an email about what I saw I my test look at the response.

It's like " It's your fault "

  • My Question is can we convert this TB2 Interface to TB3 and make it faster?
