Preventing Chrome from keeping display awake

Hello,

I have a Chrome window with a live-stream of a security camera open.

Because of that the computer does not go to sleep.

Can I somehow override Chrome's keep-awake behavior?

Thank you

FlorianXYZ,

Thank you for getting back to us. The Google Chrome extension that you have on your Mac will keep the Mac awake. Following all steps to initiate sleep/wake features on your Mac will not work if the "Keep Awake" extension is installed.

We will suggest this resource but its important to remember that certain extensions on your Google Chrome app as ell as other apps will override these settings: Set sleep and wake settings for your Mac

If you continue to experience issues, you may need to contact Apple Support

Cheers!

FlorianXYZ,

Thank you for getting back to us. If you would like your screen to follow sleep/wake settings that you set then you must remove extensions preventing that and in the future when an app asks to control your display or it's settings you should decline the access.

The steps to remove those extensions would be within the third party app support which is why we recommended the Chrome support link. We can not walk you through steps to remove an extension in a third party app.

As suggested in the previous post, if you continue to experience issues, you may need to contact Apple Support

Cheers!

Hello FlorianXYZ,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support communities. We understand that you are wanting to know how to disable the "Keep Awake" feature on your Google Chrome browser. We would love to provide you support on this.

Chrome features and issues are to be resolved by Google or may have answers in a Google forum just as Apple does in this forum. Although it isn't supported here we did find a resource that might help you.

Please follow this resource to disable the "Keep Awake" extension in Google Chrome: Keep Awake

If you are unable to find the resolution in the support forum for Google Chrome you may need to reach out to Google for additional support using the same suggested link above.

Thank you for allowing us to support you.

Have an awesome and productive day!

Thank you for the info.

I am generally looking for a way to prevent applications from keeping the computer awake and/or the screen unlocked.

Example of what happens right now: I walk away from my computer. I expect it to lock the screen and ask for a password after 10 minutes. I come back two hours later - the screen is still unlocked.

Chrome was just an example. Thank you for the suggested Chrome extension - it does the opposite of what I am trying to accomplish.

Thank you!

I want my computer to lock the screen.

I want my computer to go to sleep.

I do not want applications from overruling those settings.
