Apple TV 4K Remote Stopped Controlling Soundbar Volume via CEC
This used to work perfectly. But a week ago suddenly when we press the volume up or down button on our Apple 4K remote (new design) we get an AppleTV alert that says we "haven't set up volume control".
So of course we select to set it up and we wind up in the REMOTES AND DEVICES menu:
The HDMI-CEC toggle shows "ON" and weirdly
"VOLUME CONTROL" shows "Auto (OFF)"
- I made sure the TV OS is updated.
- Rebooted / power cycled all devices several times.
- I made sure my Samsung Q90R Soundbar firmware is updated and CEC (Anynet+) is set to "ON"
One interesting point:
When I disconnected/reconnected all HDMI cables to try to force a new HDMI handshake, this resulted in
"VOLUME CONTROL" to show "Control Audio Receiver Volume" and I briefly thought that must have fixed it -
but this was short-lived as the instant you click up or down volume on the remote - it immediately pops right back to "Auto (OFF)" again -- such a tease.
I tried changing the HDMI cables too. But got the same result as above.
We have temporarily switched to controlling the volume via IR but that is not as functional as it was before.
Already checked this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205225 But was no help in my case.
As I say this used to work so I'm quite confused.
Any ideas?
