Most of shops in mainland China only accept QR payment via Alipay and/or WeChat Pay. Some of them, chain stores etc., accept UnionPay cards. Only very few of them accept Visa, MasterCard and/or AmEx cards. You can find the Visa, MasterCard and/or AmEx logo at the entrance of the shop or beside the POS.

If you want to use your cards in Apple Wallet, you need to find a shop accepts the cards which store inside your Apple Wallet. You can use at McDonald's.

But honestly, I think it is quite difficult to use at other places.

And the other hand, QR payment is the most popular way to pay in mainland China. So, the cashier may not know the way to accept your cards. Even I encountered many times, the cashier didn't know how to accept the local UnionPay card. 😢
