What is "Other Items" in Photos? Why are there inconsistencies?

What is "Other Items" in Photos?

How do you find them etc.

I have inconsistencies with Photos,

icloud.com: 23640 Photos, 1149 Videos, 2 Other Items

MacMini: 23642 Photos, 1149 Videos, 2 Other Items

MacBook: 23642 Photos, 1149 Videos, 2 Other Items

iPad: 23642 Photos, 1149 Videos, 2 Other Items

iPhoneSE2020: 23641 Photos, 1149 Videos, 2 Other Items

iPhone6: 23658 Photos, 1149 Videos, 2 Other Items

Why?

I cannot seem to find out what the "Other Items" are!

What are they?

How do I find them?

I searched for PDF (& other keywords) found 3 old pdf manuals, removed them

& still it shows "2 Other Items" (which it did before searching for the PDFs!).

Although this question is asked regularly it is never satisfactorily answered.

Ah! Brilliant! The answer at last!

What a good Old Toad you are!

I used, "Filename - does not include - ".[jpg,jpeg,mpg,mpeg,mp4,mov,avi,png,3gp,heic]"

as the criteria.

I was left with 2 .m4a items which appear to have come from my wife's old phone.

Sadly the way I've written it above is in "GRE" (Global Regular Expression)

syntax which was not accepted (you can't even "paste" into the text box!???) as

a condition criteria.

So I had to have a line for each ".ext".

Now at least I know what those pesky "other items" are!

Those would be pdf files or audio files. Photos no can't import pdf files but earlier iPhoto versions could and those were migrated to Photos.

A smart album can tell you what they are.

OK thanks - so what you are saying is that no one here knows the answer to this question

as it seems to have been asked many times before without success & there is no answer to it

on the apple website.

So can you suggest where to ask? ie. how to ask apple?

In seeking support on this it seemed to become tedious & is best done by saying your problems are with icloud if you have an icloud subscription.

But before I got there, it was answered below by "Old Toad".
