As you have iPhone X, if you did update successfully and are still seeing the same message, you will need to contact Apple Support or take your device in the nearest service location.

Called apple support for this issue they said need to authorize $589 up front then mail in for repair, there is no damage to my phone it literally updated one night while on the charger next day no faceid due to a true depth camera issue. Annoying.
Personally I might wait to see if anything gets fixed in the software before spending that much.
And before you ask, nobody here has any idea if there is a fix. We do know there are a lot of cases since the update.
My thoughts exactly. Fingers crossed they fix the glitch. Rotten to charge a fee for repair when the phones issue is resulting from an update. SMH
