Turn on iCloud Keychain on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Tap Settings, tap [your name], then choose iCloud.
  2. Tap Keychain.
  3. Slide to turn on iCloud Keychain. You might be asked for your passcode or Apple ID password.

The following will not get transferred.

  • Content from the iTunes and App Stores or PDFs downloaded directly to Apple Books
  • Content synced from iTunes, like imported MP3s or CDs, videos, books, and photos
  • Data already stored in iCloud, like iCloud Photos, iMessages, and text (SMS) and multimedia (MMS) messages
  • Face ID or Touch ID settings
  • Apple Pay information and settings
  • Apple Mail data
  • Apple Music

Note: Touch ID is just an enabler for logging in. You need to have passwords saved somewhere.

For example, Locked Notes can be opened using Touch ID / Face ID. But if you forget the password that was associated with the Touch ID / Face ID and if you transfer all the Notes to another device then there is no way you can open the Notes saved under the Notes app. Because Face ID or Touch ID settings are not transferred.

You must keep the passwords safely in one place.
