Shared Albums not letting me invite people

So this should be an easy question to solve, but so far, I'm not finding anything online to help with it. When I have a shared album and want to add people to it, I click the people icon as shown in the attached picture, and I don't get the box on the top of this dialog that actually has the invite feature. There should be a box I can type people into and invite them, but it won't show up. So I end up having to create and invite from iOS.

I'm using the latest MacOS, on an M1 MBP. I'm baffled -- why isn't the UX showing up?

Hi Richard Eames,

We understand that you're running into an issue when trying to share albums on your Mac, and we'd love to help.

Does this happen with all shared albums, or only certain ones?

Just to confirm, does this only occur when you try to invite more people to an existing shared album? Are you able to add people to your albums when you initially create it, using the steps outlined under the "Create a new shared album" part of this page? How to share albums in Photos on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Do you experience the same behavior when your Mac has been started up in safe mode? How to use safe mode on your Mac

Thanks!
