If your Apple TV remote isn't working
You could also try using an iOS device as a remote if you have one:
Set Up The Apple TV Remote on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch
Once you have a working remote, you can reset your Apple TV device if the device itself is giving you trouble:
Reset or Restore your Apple TV to its factory settings
