How do I get back a deleted text message or iMessage

Go to:
Settings > Your Name, iCloud, etc
Tap iCloud
Are Messages turned on (green)?
If they are you cannot recover a deleted message.
If they are not, LD150 suggested correctly you could restore from a backup if you have a backup you made from before you deleted the message. But your phone will be restored to the date the backup was made, so messages sent or received after the date the backup was made will be gone.
