Desktop folder positioning

Hi, I want to locate several folders in different corners/places of the desktop, but when I try to drag them into different places/positions they just jump back to the right hand side. How can I make them stay where I want them? Thanks!

MacBook, macOS 10.13

OK, highlight one of the folders, then CMD+a to Select All, then the View Menu>Sort by...>None, that should do you. :)
