When the 9th gen basic iPads launch later this year as expected, will the 6th and 7th gen iPads still be applicable for trade in? (the 2 older model iPads I refer to are in perfect condition).

Yes. Trade-in accepts many old models. There is no specific time frame for models to drop off the trade-in list. but given the relative low age of those 2 models its unlikely they'd drop off the list simply because a new model is released.
They should be completely able to be traded in. Though they may lose some trade in value once the new iPad is released.
You may want to trade them in now for a gift card, rather than wait until after the next gen is released.

Yes, I think that iPads 6th and 7th generation (both compatible with the current iPadOS 14.7.1) will remain available for trade in.
Without any official Apple announcement about future iPad models, I wouldn't be so sure they will launch it/them next fall. Time will tell.

Hey, thanks a lot! Yes, I was considering that, trading them in now for credit to make the purchase later. I just have to make sure I don't need them for work between when I'd trade them in and the new launch! It's hard to know for sure, of course. I was looking at MacRumours, which has been fairly accurate in my experience.
