restoring iTunes

I want to move my iTunes library onto a new computer -but when I hold the shift key while opening my music nothing happens (it just opens iTunes). I'm trying to figure out how to choose the new iTunes library I have on an external hardrive. help

MacBook Air (2020 or later)

On a Mac, press Option instead of Shift.

Itunes won't load on new computer. I brought a new computer running Windows 11. I had them transferer all of my stuff off of my old computer onto my new one. Didn't see my iTunes on it so I downloaded iTunes onto this computer but when I try to open it, I get "The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. What do I need to do to get my iTunes back? Thank you for your help. Jim

Lost iTunes Plays totals and playlists after Windows reset I transferred my iTunes library to a new laptop succesfully a week or so ago, but a problem with another program required me to reset Windows 11. When I opened a newly downloaded iTunes version, I got a message about the itl file having been created on a newer version of iTunes and couldn't get into the program. I did a search for solutions and followed some instructions about renaming the itl as dot-old and then using a Previous iTunes Libraries file. That got me into iTunes, and I immediately was notified of a newer version available, which I downloaded. I wasn't seeing my library and tried the Add Folder to Library option, selecting my iTunes folder. That allowed the tracks and album names to show up in the Songs folder, but my playlists and the Plays totals are gone. Any help would be appreciated.

iTunes resets to the default library location Hello: I need the iTunes media folder to be located on a USB external hard drive rather than the "C" drive because it takes up too much space but each time I set the location of the library, iTunes moves it back to the default "C" drive location on restart. I can't install iTunes on this pc unless I can keep this from happening. I'm running Windows 11 64-bit. Thank you, Bill Ferguson
