I would advise you not install any Seagate drive software on your Mac.
Most software from drive manufacturers is usually less than awesome to use on Mac at best, and often causes conflicts and issues at worst. There is usually little benefit to using their software versus the Mac software, Time Machine in particular.
Having said that, and if you have initiated the installation of this software, then yes, allow it to install the extension it is requesting.

FYI, no external hard drive needs any kind of software to function; therefore, it is best to erase and format a new drive so you can start from scratch and have a clean "canvas" so to speak.
No, I would not allow Toolkit to install the system extension. There's no need. Time Machine doesn't need it, and if you won't be using the Seagate software then there is no reason to allow it to install anything on the Mac.
Maker-supplied software is generally redundant and therefore unneeded. Your Mac has everything it needs to properly use an external drive.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.
No. In fact, you should not use or have Seagate Apps installed!

I connected & used it but through Time Machine only. Should I then allow Toolkit to install a system extension?
All are helpful responses. I'll continue to use Seagate as my backup removable drive to Time Machine without allowing it to install a system extension.
As you wish, my friend.

Good advice.
I've used Seagate Backup Plus since 2013 on my 2012 iMac. I just began using Seagate Ultra Touch on my new iMac 24. It connected & backed up without any apparent problem. But I won't allow it to install a system extension based upon your advice or if I get a better explanation as to why.
