Question: How to download Itunes on Windows 7?

Had Windows 7 with Itunes working fine. Microsoft instructed me to upgrade to Windows 10 and when they did so, my Itunes was wiped out. Have been back and forth between 7 and 10 and cannot get my Itunes working. I get messages such as "VCRuntime not present" and "an older version of Itunes alrady exists on computer". A previous Microsoft tech removed all Apple downloads on my computer and I cannot find a previous version.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment. Links to the most recent builds are now at the bottom of the page.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Go thought the tear down advice again. In particular try the Microsoft troubleshooter at Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed.

When installing use one of these links:

  • iTunes 12.10.11.2 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2021-04-22) Last(?) build to support Windows 7 & 8
  • iTunes 12.10.11.2 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2021-04-22) Last(?) build to support Windows 7 & 8

Thanks. First link got me: Itunes installaton is intended for 32 bit versions of Windows. Please download and install 64 bit installer instead.

Second link went further, but got me: Welcome to Itunes...Installation Options...The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter altermate path to a folder with installation package.

I still get messages saying an older version exists on my computer, but I cannot find it.

Will installing Windows 10 allow a successful Itunes installation? Was hoping to avoid the cost, but my Itunes is important.

Thanks for the help!!! John

Yes. Does not give me the option of installing or uninstalling Itunes. Makes me wonder why previous messages indicate an older version of Itunes exists on my computer.

When I download the "fix" option, a message comes up in the corner of the page, stating support for Windows 7 no long available.

Will a Windows 10 download override my current Windows 7 and possible allow my Itunes to be installed?

Many thanks.

Try using the section Install missing components to install each of the necessary components. These may install over the top of whatever remnants remain from your earlier install without the "earlier version" warning.

Upgrading to Windows 10 over Windows 7 isn't guaranteed to fix the iTunes installation problem, but it would at least allow you to run that troubleshooter. Ultimate fix is to do a clean install of Windows then restore all of your apps and data into it.

Uninstall each of those components using the troubleshooter. Once that is done the regular installer should be able to run. It may help to run the installer as administrator by right-clicking on it when the time comes.
