Apple TV cannot display older purchased videos

My wife and I are going back to the beginning of a TV series. The episodes were purchased starting on 2015 via iTunes. The files are still there, but if I try to mirror to our TV, it says the video cannot be played on that TV. It used to play purchased videos just fine.

What is the problem with older vids that (I assume) Apple TV blocks their display?

Thanks in advance.

Why are you using screen mirroring? iTunes Store content can be loaded on the Apple TV box itself, which may be more convenient.

Can you screen mirror anything else? Try to pinpoint if the issue is with the streaming or with the content.

You can’t AirPlay Home Shared files, like iMac→laptop→Apple TV. That is double streaming, and unsupported.

It has to be one direct connection, like iMac→Apple TV, or laptop→Apple TV.

To play media files from you local network, try using Home Sharing instead. Then you can operate the files directly on the Apple TV box, through the Computers app. Use Home Sharing to share media from a computer to other devices - Apple Support

I finally got it to play by disconnecting my laptop (that had been mirroring), and then going to my iMac's library, where the purchased and downloaded content resides (higher storage capacity, always on). Now I wonder what changed during my efforts; it's almost like the AppleTV needed time to complete the environment to do the playback.

But I do not understand loading load downloaded content to the AppleTV box.
