Migrated from 2011 imac to 24" and stumbled into iTunes vs Apple music scenario. I want my library on old imac, either on my iphone or new imac. Iphone is not showing up on iTunes, saying it needs software update.

If iTunes is saying it needs to update the software then that is a going to add a communications patch. In itself that won't touch your library. See Move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Community to copy the library from the old Mac to the new one.
