I just need to transfer Word and other microsoft applications to my new laptop from my old laptop. I don't want to transfer anything else from the old laptop though

There’s no means to select which apps are automatically copied over, so you’ll probably want to download and install Office (Office 2016 or later, or the Office 365 subscription, for macOS 11) from Microsoft.
Just install Microsoft Office onto your new computer. Check with Microsoft regarding transferring the license.
