Two factor authentication every time, even when I "trust" the browser

I have to go through Apple's two factor authentication every time I log in to an Apple page, even though I've clicked "Trust this browser" and even though I'm on my Mac using Safari... using everything Apple, and still Apple can't remember to "Trust this browser."

Am I missing something? How do I get it to not authenticate every single time?

MacBook, macOS 11.4

Ok. Thanks for the reply.

You’re one of the few to report this behavior AND try to help figure out why it’s “misbehaving.”

Refreshing.

Most just add to the three-year, dis-information rant “over” in another thread.

Never really doubted what many there were experiencing; but lots of difficulty trying to separate the “noise” from the “signal” so as to help discern WHY.

Hello etrnlflame,

Based on your post it appears you're having some trouble with repeated attempts to verify the account using Safari after signing in.

Just to confirm, is this happening with multiple websites using Safari?

Do you have the latest version of macOS installed?

Can you test the issue after clearing Safari history? Keep us updated.

Clear your browsing history in Safari on Mac

Warm regards.

Working for tech companies for 8 years sure helps my interest in troubleshooting.

This issue has actually been going on for years, I've only recently been annoyed that it occurs even on my Mac. I used to be annoyed that Apple websites never "trusted my browser" on my work PCs, but thought it was something my work implemented in the PC. Now that I've clued in that this issue shouldn't reoccur with my personal Mac (while using Safari nonetheless), I've started troubleshooting. Unfortunately, I think there is no quick fix for me.

Thanks for the help!

Ok:

Lets check the Mac:

System Preferences -> AppleID -> Password & Security

Is your AppleID correctly reflected at the top of the left column (under your User Avatar) …

… AND also listed at top-right (as AppleID)?

Is the Mac listed at the bottom of the left column? (your “Trusted Devices”)

… Back to “right” column …

Is Two-Factor Authentication indicating “on/green” ?

Are your correct AppleID “Trusted Phone Numbers” displayed?
