Apple Watch Update

I have an older Apple Watch I haven’t used in a while. I just got a new phone and decided I would pair my watch to it. But when I try to pair it, it says an update is required. But when I click update now, it says it’s unable to update due to the fact that im not connected to the internet. But I am. I tried going into my settings and iPhone storage but there was no update to delete. Im not sure how to fix the problem
