Lost iPhone, also forgot Apple id password

My friend lost his iphone, but unfortunately he also forgot his Apple id password, what to do? is resetting Apple ID with another device a good idea? Will resetting the password with another device not cause the lost iPhone to not connect to the Apple ID?

You can reset the password use a browser. Enter the Apple (iCloud) ID, and click Forgot Password. See if you can get a Rescue or Notification email option if necessary. Link to contact Apple Support at the end of the 2nd article.
