How can ear wax be cleaned from the screens of wired earbuds?

When I worked for Verizon, I had a couple of brushes that were sold as, if I recall, gun cleaning brushes. I used the for all sorts of electronics cleaning. That and soft dental pics.

I'm really squeamish about ear wax.
